December 2023

The holiday season is a wonderful time and I had a chance to go back to Dillingham to be with my family for Christmas.

I started to get past my slump and am really proud of some of the wintry scenes here.

Clouds and Light on Pyramid

Pyramid Mountain in Kodiak shrouded in clouds but with some breaths of light.

Trident Seafoods announces it will sell 4 processing plants

Kodiak FilAm Association Christmas Party

The Kodiak Filipino American Association had a huge Christmas party to close out the year. It was so much fun to hang out and play games with so many Filipinos on the island. Read the full story here.

Snowy Branches

I hardly took any photos to start out the month, but these images of trees with some snow left on them from a storm was the start of getting out of my slump.

Return to Dillingham

Whenever I go back to Dillingham, I like to help my old station, KDLG, and get some stock photography for them.

Dillingham black spruce

Dillingham has a lot of trees and I love how quickly open tundra becomes dense forests of black spruce, especially when the snow clings on to the branches.

Views around VORTAC

Probably my favorite image from the trip. I love how the bushes frame the trees and the texture of the sky here.

VORTAC is just an awesome place to be. Open fields with mountains and trees scattered the tundra makes an easy time for photography.

Frosty trees and bushes

Hoarfrost is pretty common in Dillingham.

It’s so much fun to look for these interesting shapes and almost abstract patterns.

This one kind of looks like an artery pattern or even black lightning.

Mountains in the Distance

The first image is from Wood River, the other is from Aleknagik Lake.

I think Amelia had some fun visiting my family for the holidays and seeing all the snow, especially since Kodiak hardly gets any.

I hope everyone had a great 2023. I’m writing this well into 2024 by now and it seems I’m continuing to pull myself back into taking photography more seriously. I have a sort of magazine I’m self-publishing this spring and I’m so excited to share it with all of you.
